In order to avoid common event planning mistakes, don’t wait until the last minute to make your plans. Even something as simple as a small get-together can go wrong without enough buffer time. There are many details that go into planning an event, and if one of those details goes wrong it can cause a ripple effect and your event can go downhill quickly.
As an event planner, you strive to provide quality results and unwavering service to your clients, but nobody can achieve this 100% of the time, and often it’s our mistakes that teach us the most. However, when it comes to your clients and their events, you don’t have a lot of room for error and one mistake can change the entire flow and feel of your event.
Common Event Planning Mistakes To Avoid
Watch today’s video on EventPlanning BlueprintTV to learn common event planning mistakes (and how to avoid them).
- Not setting an event objective or deadlines, and/or not knowing your event budget
- Having too much (or not enough) social media presence
- Not confirming your vendors
- Not having the right event staff for setting up the event, running the event or tearing down the event
- Leaving event promotion to the last minute
To stay organized, if you aren’t using event planning software, use a 3-ring binder to manage your event details. The binder can house your checklist, notes, quotes, receipts and details. Keeping yourself organized is one of the most important pieces of event planning. This way even the tiny details (you thought you’d never forget) are there as a reminder. We’d love to hear from you. In the comments, share an event planning mistake you’ve made and what you learned from that mistake. As always, thanks so much for sharing. Happy Planning!
